چکیده

An efficient compression algorithm for multi-view video sequences, which are captured by two-dimensional (2D) camera arrays, is proposed in this work. First, we propose a novel prediction structure, called three-dimensional hierarchical B prediction (3DHBP), which can efficiently reduce horizontal inter-view redundancies, vertical inter-view redundancies, and temporal redundancies in multi-view videos. Second, we develop a view interpolation scheme based on the bilateral disparity estimation. The interpolation scheme yields high quality view frames by adapting disparity estimation and compensation procedures using the information in neighboring frames. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed multi-view video coding algorithm provides significantly better rate–distortion (R–D) performance than the conventional algorithm, by employing the 3DHBP structure and using interpolated view frames as additional reference frames. 2009 Elsevier Inc. View Interpolation Prediction for Multi-view Video Coding

Since multi-view video is a collection of videos captured by a multiple camera array, the volume of data is huge. Various algorithms have been developed for multi-view video coding. In this paper, we propose two methods: efficient view interpolation and ‘VIP P-picture’ coding. The view interpolation method includes initial disparity estimation, variable block-based matching, and pixel-level dis...

Overview of View Synthesis Prediction for Multi-view Video Coding

With a wide range of viewing angles, the multi-view video can provide more realistic feeling at arbitrary viewpoints. However, because of a huge amount of data from multiple cameras, we need to develop an efficient coding method. One of the promising approaches for multi-view video coding is view synthesis prediction which generates an additional reference frame. In this paper, we explain the p...

Efficient disparity vector prediction schemes with modified P frame for 2D camera arrays

An efficient disparity estimation algorithm for multi-view video sequences, recorded by a two-dimensional camera array in which the cameras are spaced equidistantly, is presented. Because of the strong geometrical relationship among views, the disparity vectors of a certain view can for most blocks be derived from the disparity vectors of other views. A frame constructed using that idea is call...

Improving the Prediction Efficiency for Multi-View Video Coding Using Histogram Matching

Abstract. Applications for video data recorded with a setup of several cameras are currently attracting increasing interest. For such multi-view sequences, efficient coding is crucial to handle the enormous amount of data. However, significant luminance and chrominance variations between the different views, which often originate from imperfect camera calibration, are able to reduce the coding ...

Multiple View Video Streaming and 3d Scene Reconstruction for Traffic Surveillance

We present a 3D modeling system for traffic surveillance applications. The application contains several cameras positioned around a traffic scene. The video signals are compressed and streamed to a central client. At the central client a scene reconstruction is carried out, using all 2D camera views utilizing 3D camera calibration information. To combine all views into a 3D model, moving object...
